The Sullivan Fortner Trio in Concert - A New Mexico Jazz Festival Event
Grammy award winning jazz pianist Sullivan Fortner will be front and center for this years SFMC Platinum Concert, a New Mexico Jazz Festival affiliated event at SITE Santa Fe, on Thursday, September 28th. A native of New Orleans, Fortner grew up playing organ in his mom’s church choir. Still in his thirties, he has drawn national attention for his virtuosity as a piano player and composer. He has released two albums as a leader (Moments Preserved and Aria), both to critical acclaim and in 2015 won the American Pianist’s Association “Cole Porter Fellowship in Jazz”. He played with the late, great Roy Hargrove for seven years and has also played with Wynton Marsalis, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Diane Reeves, John Scofield, Peter Bernstein, Fred Hersch and Stefon Harris. He has recorded and produced three albums with jazz vocal sensation Cecile McLorin Salvant and is currently her musical director.
Accompanying Fortner for this New Mexico tour will be bassist Tyrone Allen and drummer Kayvon Gordon.
The Sullivan Fortner Trio will also be performing a New Mexico Jazz Festival event on Wednesday, September 27th at The Outpost Performance Space in Albuquerque, and a NMJF affiliated concert with the Taos Jazz Bebop Society on Friday, September 29th.
