The Future of Jazz To Come
The young lions, who hail from Denver, Colorado are on the forefront of jazz today, driving the train that will determine where jazz is headed. Their roots are firmly established in jazz history as they boldly chart a course for the future.
DARUMA is a nationally touring band whose music speaks to the 21st century through a potent blend of improvisation, driving grooves, and evocative textures. They were recently named 2025 Creative Capital finalists and won the 2024 South Arts Jazz Road touring grant, supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Mellon Foundation, and the Doris Duke Foundation.
The band has performed throughout the US and has been featured on NPR, PBS, and CBS broadcast TV. Members of the band have performed with leading voices in contemporary music including Billy Childs, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Action Bronson, Big Gigantic, Tia Fuller, and Theo Croker, at notable venues including Birdland, the Blue Note Amsterdam, Dodger Stadium, Red Rocks Ampitheatre, and have won ASCAP and Downbeat awards.
As they await a scheduled European summer tour, SFMC is proud to have the opportunity to introduce these young northern neighbors to our vibrant New Mexico jazz community and it’s welcoming enthusiasm for America’s original art form.
