The Legendary Eddie Daniels featuring Lee Musiker
The five B’s at Unit B
“Bach, Brazilian, Bernstein, Broadway, and Bennett”
“Eddie Daniels combines elegance and virtuosity in a way that makes me remember Arthur Rubenstein. He is a thoroughly well-bred demon.” …… Leonard Bernstein
Santa Fe’s own multi Grammy Winner and Nominee Eddie Daniels will bring his clarinet and saxophone virtuosity to UNIT B for a rare two night appearance featuring pianist Lee Musiker. The symbiosis between these two masters will feature an evening of music ranging from Classical to Broadway to Bennett, (as in Tony), accompanied by Gordon Johnson – Bass, and John Trentacosta – Drums. Both concerts will highlight the vast array of musical styles that have defined their illustrious careers.
Eddie Daniels started his career at a very young age with the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra in 1966 at The Village Vanguard in New York City. As the youngest musician in the orchestra, Eddie quickly became known as one of the premier soloists on tenor saxophone and as a result of a live recording at The Village Vanguard, he won Downbeat Magazine’s International Critics New Star on Clarinet award. After world wide travel with The Thad Jones/ Mel Lewis Orchestra, Eddie went on to become one New York’s Finest, earning a regular chair in the Dick Cavett show band.
Eddie Daniels is clearly a renaissance musician, a virtuoso in both jazz and classical music, recipient of unreserved accolades from his peers, from critics, and from the public ….. truly the rarest of the rare. Eddie’s overriding ambition is to reach as many people as possible with his music, to enlarge the audience for both jazz and classical music and at the same time to tear down the walls separating them. In Eddie’s hands, the music of Mozart can be as engaging as that of Charlie Parker and a concert featuring both can be a uniquely rewarding experience for the audience.
Lee Musiker, is a pianist, arranger, and conductor. Also the recipient of multi Grammy awards and Nominations, his musical virtuosity runs the gamut from Barbara Streisand, to Wynton Marsalis, to many of the top orchestras worldwide. His more than a decade tenure as Tony Bennett’s musical director has brought him word wide acclaim. “Absolutely brilliant …. exceptionally rich harmonies and propulsive rhythms” ……… Stephen Holden – The New York Times.
Listening here to Eddie Daniels and Lee Musiker together is pure magic. You will not want to miss this rare opportunity. Friday and Saturday June 26th & 27th at UNIT B.
