Glenn Kostur
Celebrates Coltrane’s Centennial
Arguably the most influential tenor saxophone player of the 20th century, John Coltrane has left an indelible mark on jazz history and its future path. As a sideman with the Miles Davis band in the 1950’s he quickly became the most talked about tenor player of the period. In the early 1960’s his wide appeal helped him launch his own history making quartet that immediately began chartering new territory in jazz. John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, and Elvin Jones were about to make jazz history like no other group had previously done.
Take a trip with us down memory lane as we celebrate Coltrane’s centennial and reenact the genius that he was through his music.
Glenn Kostur, Albuquerque’s master saxophone player will lead the way, along with Bob Fox – Piano, Gordy Johnson – Bass, and John Trentacosta – Drums.
Kostur has done it all, arranging, composing and leading The Albuquerque Jazz Orchestra for more than two decades. An alum of some of the most famous big bands including Maynard Ferguson, Woody Herman, Louie Bellson, and Dizzy Gillespie, Kostur has also played with many of the biggest names in jazz today including Bob Mintzer, Randy Brecker and jazz giants Joe Williams, Slide Hampton, and James Moody.
If you are a fan of John Coltrane, you’re not going to want to miss this retrospective of Coltrane’s music, complete with a historical perspective of the impact his quartet left on America’s classical music…..JAZZ.
