NEA Jazz master, drummer extraordinaire and an illustrious figure around town for more than ten years, Tootie Heath would have turned 90 years old this year. On May 30, the jazz community will come together at UNIT B to celebrate his life and musical legacy with a documentary video and live performance by “Tootie Heath’s Whole Drum Truth”. Packed with interviews, rare performance videos of young Tootie with Dexter Gordon and Sonny Rollins, and some recent clips of him just being Tootie, the audience will be treated to an inside view of the famous jazz musician who charmed this little town in the southwest. If you never met him you are in for a real treat. If you just met Tootie once or knew him well it will be an evening of love and fond memories of a man who will live in our collective memories for many years to come. Albert “Tootie” Heath” …….
